Contra Dancing

My friend Justin loves contra dancing and he's been asking me for years to go with him and try it sometime. Last night I finally made it to a contra dance up at Glen Echo Park (my usual swing dancing venue). It was lots of fun! Contra dancing is traditional American folk dancing. The music is kind of bluegrass and its like a big barn dance. Some dances are done in lines of couples, some are done in big circles and some are done in a square dance formation. They walk everyone through it a couple times and then start the music and you just dance away for 10-15 minutes until they stop to show you the next dance. Here's a video of a contra dance just to give you an idea of what its like:

Any of you in the DC area can come learn to contra dance on Sat March 15 at the Mt. Vernon Stake Center 8-11 pm. The dance is free, although donations to help pay for the band would be welcome. Hope to see you there!

That looks like so much fun! I really miss dancing. The spousal unit would rather cut off body parts than cut a rug.
